The Offer
The purpose of the evaluation is to perform a specific set of tests that can paint an accurate picture of the true health of a piece of electrical equipment.
Visual Inspection
Just like a picture is worth a-thousand words, opening a panel, transformer, or other piece of equipment can give a lot of information about the condition of a piece of gear. Discolored metal, melting plastic, neatness of wiring, presence of dust and debris… they all tell a story.
Voltage and Amperage tests
Electricity should flow in predictable ways, and a way to measure this flow is checking the voltage and amperage of the circuits. This test is what we’d call “low hanging fruit”; generally the results are normal, however, finding a result that is out of normal range is an immediate indication of a problem.
Thermographic Imaging
The real test for finding hidden trouble, and predicting failures. Heat in an electrical system is bad. Using an infrared camera that is calibrated for measuring temperature makes it possible to see what the eyes can’t, without ever having to touch the device itself. Safe and effective.
Insulation (Megger) Testing
A specialized electrical meter that sends a high dose of electricity down the line and tests how good the insulation is. Insulation testing is generally not needed for a normal preventive maintenance evaluation, but it is an invaluable tool for determining a bad motor or damaged wiring.
