Preventive Maintenance

What is PM?

As opposed to “Corrective Maintenance”, or more appropriately “Emergency Maintenance”, Preventive Maintenance (PM) is proactive. PM consists of inspections and testing to verify that all aspects of the system are operating correctly, and gives an early warning when a problem begins to surface.

In most cases, thermal imaging of the power distribution system (transformers, panel boards, disconnects, etc.), basic electrical testing and a visual inspection should suffice for regular maintenance plans. Any location-specific emergency devices or sensors should be checked regularly as well. However, depending upon the condition or age of the facility, it may be advantageous to address any issues that don’t meet a minimum standard while establishing a baseline for future preventive maintenance. A free consultation with us will highlight any such deficiencies, as well as developing a unique maintenance plan for your facility!

The Benefits of Preventive Maintenance

Longevity

Electrical equipment, though they are made to last a long time, do not last forever. Every year that these pieces of equipment are not maintained accelerates the need to replace the equipment… and the cost associated with it!

10x Savings

on Preventive Maintenance for a piece of equipment over “run it to death” strategy

4x Savings

on future Capital Renewal projects for money spent on Preventive Maintenance.

30% More Cost Effective

than relying on Reactive (emergency) Maintenance.

Reliability

Unplanned events are stressful… unplanned events that are expensive are very stressful. It’s imperative to be able to trust that you facility runs smoothly on a day to day basis, so when there is an unexpected failure it is disastrous. Additionally, if the failure happens off the clock, the resulting downtime grows even more as people scramble to fix the issue when they arrive at work.

52.7% Less

unplanned downtime over Reactive Maintenance.

78.5% Fewer

failures and defects with Preventive and Predictive Maintenance.

35-40% Reduction

in total downtime compared to Reactive Maintenance.

Safety

Unfortunately, when equipment does decide to fail, it generally does not do so in a polite and calm manner. The effect on personnel and property near to the event could be tragic.

$1-4mil

Cost of a non-fatal injury resulting from electricity

140,000

Fires each year due to malfunctioning electrical equipment

50-75%

Reduction of accidents through a Preventive Maintenance plan.
